Duplex strainers are widely used in critical industrial liquid systems where one filtration chamber must remain in service while the other is cleaned, inspected, or serviced.
These strainers are especially suitable for process plants, water systems, cooling circuits, marine service, chemical plants, and utility lines where stopping the system for cleaning is difficult, undesirable, or commercially costly.
AΒ duplex strainerΒ is a dual-chamber filtration system consisting of two separate strainer baskets or screen chambers connected through a changeover or diverting valve arrangement. It allows one chamber to remain online while the second chamber is isolated for basket cleaning or maintenance.
Unlike standard single basket strainers, a duplex strainer enables continuous process flow without shutting down the complete line during maintenance. This makes it highly valuable in critical service applications where process interruption is unacceptable.
Process fluid enters the duplex strainer system and is directed into one active basket chamber. The basket traps suspended solids while the cleaned fluid exits downstream. When the active basket becomes loaded with debris, the operator diverts flow to the second chamber without interrupting the line.
Once flow is shifted to the standby chamber, the first chamber can be isolated, opened, cleaned, inspected, and returned to ready condition. This alternating operation enables uninterrupted filtration service in continuous-duty applications.
