a. Floating Ball Valve

Two seats hold the ball in place in this configuration, but it has some freedom to move along the valve’s axis. The ball presses against the downstream seat when pressure is applied, guaranteeing a tight seal.
Applications requiring low to medium pressure, such as steam lines, nitrogen, or compressed air, are best suited for floating ball valves.

b. Ball valve mounted on a Trunnion

In this case, Trunnion—fixed shafts—support the ball at both ends. The valve is ideal for oil and gas pipelines, natural gas, and process gas systems because of its design, which minimizes seat wear and enables it to withstand high pressure and large diameters.

c. Ball valve with full bore (full port)

There is no pressure loss and no turbulence because the ball’s bore is the same as the inner diameter of the pipe. In systems involving steam, oxygen, and high-purity gases where preserving flow characteristics is essential, full bore valves are frequently utilized.

d. Ball valve with reduced bore (reduced port)

There is a little pressure loss in this design since the bore is smaller than the inner diameter of the pipe. For compressed air, fuel gas, or utility services where full flow is not required, these valves are more cost-effective and appropriate.
